Fight with Blue Cross for Child Support

Child support and visitation fights are not uncommon in divorce and family courts, but usually the fighting occurs between mother and father, not mother and an insurance company.

LucyFor Jill Vaughn though, that was exactly what she had to do. The Chicago Tribune reported that Jill had already lost her home to foreclosure as she entered into the battle of her lifetime with her ex-husband the large company that provides most of his income.

Companies like Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois are required by Illinois law to “garnish” paychecks of the workers who have to pay child support, but BCBS simply refused to pay Dr. Ronald Vaughn.

Although the case is ongoing, it is estimated that Blue Cross Blue Shield may have to pay Jill Vaughn at least $5 million. It has already been five years in which Jill has not seen a penny, so she is not counting down just yet.

The trouble began when Jill did not receive the correct amount of $930 per week for alimony, child support and medical expenses from Ronald. She took precautionary measures when it continued to happen, but Ronald’s employer, BCBS, refused to “become involved in [a] personal case.”

Legally, BCBS was supposed to withhold payment to Ronald until he paid the child support, and each week that the company pays Ronald is an additional penalty.

Jill Vaughn who is now 54, has been recovering from a second hip replacement while working several jobs to afford health insurance and the three children that she had with Ronald during their marriage. She is coming close to losing another house though, she has no more time to waste waiting for BCBS.
